Failla’s 2022 Chardonnay from Chehalem Mountains Vineyard comes from a historic site first planted to vitis vinifera by Oregon pioneer Dick Erath in 1968, on the southeastern corner of the Chehalem Mountains AVA, just east of Ribbon Ridge at around 500 m elevation. The 2022 vintage brought a warm winter, cold wet spring and late frost, resulting in a small but concentrated crop, followed by a long warm autumn that allowed excellent ripeness. The wine shows ripe Anjou pear and subtle white jasmine on the nose, carried by a broad, rich palate with intense, focused fruit. Ehren Jordan’s obsessive, hands‑on farming and minimalist, hands‑off winemaking let site, variety and vintage lead, yielding a Chardonnay that is both concentrated and balanced, with lifted acidity and a precise, mineral finish.
