after seven years sur lees and with a dosage of three gram per liter, Egly's NV Grand Cru V.P. is based on the 2014 vintage (50%) with the remainder coming from 2013 and 2012. Opening in the glass with aromas of red apple, honeysuckle and tangerine zest mingling with spices, it is medium- to full-bodied and layered yet racy and fresh, supported by the incisive profile of the base year and concluding with a long, chalky finish. While not a young wine on paper, it certainly feels youthful in the glass, combining freshness with the complexity that comes with such long aging on the lees. - Kristaps Karklins
Egly-Ouriet VP (Vieillissement Prolongé) NV is a flagship grower Champagne from Ambonnay, based largely on old‑vine Pinot Noir with some Chardonnay, aged for an extended period on lees (often over six years) and finished as Extra Brut. “VP” stands for Vieillissement Prolongé, highlighting the unusually long ageing that builds extra depth, richness and complexity. This prolonged élevage yields a powerful, vinous style: aromas of ripe apple, pear and citrus peel intertwine with brioche, roasted nuts and subtle spice. The palate is concentrated and structured, with fine mousse, vibrant acidity and a pronounced chalky, saline finish. A reference point for serious, terroir-driven Champagne, combining depth, complexity and gastronomic versatility.
