The 2019 Iubileus comes from Malbec from a plot planted in 2013 on limestone-rich soils with some 40 centimeters of soil, worked organically since it was planted but not certified. It fermented in used rolling barrels with indigenous yeasts, with a maceration of 30 days and matured in used barriques for 16 months. It has moderate ripeness, 14% alcohol and good freshness and acidity, coming through as balanced, harmonious and juicy, with some earthiness, fine, chalky tannins and a long, persistent finish. - Luis Gutiérrez
Description
PerSe Iubileus Malbec 2019 represents the unique personality of Gualtallary expressed through their own Malbec. The Iubileus parcel is located in the central and northern side of the PerSe vineyard in the southernmost geology of Lomas del Jaboncillo. Its soil features classic calcareous deposits spread over a deeper topsoil compared to other parcels. The 2019 vintage, considered the best in the last three decades due to its cold and dry conditions, delivers expressive aromas of white flowers and red fruits intermingled with earthy notes and chalk. On the palate it shows chiselled fine-grained tannins, good tension and a fresh, deep finish. Fermented spontaneously in neutral French oak barrels with a 40-day maceration and gentle daily rolling, then aged 16 months in the same barrels before being bottled without fining or filtering. A precise, elegant and age-worthy Malbec with great aging potential that beautifully showcases the purity and character of the Gualtallary terroir.
