The 2019 Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal is an earthier wine with notes of graphite. It was selected from a plot within their Piedra Infinita vineyard around the beautiful winery in Paraje Altamira, where there are some 40 centimeters of soil and then the limestone-covered white and round alluvial rocks. It feels drier (despite all of them being dry) than the Piedra Infinita, which is a blend of soils, and little less refined than the Supercal that really shines in 2019. All these bottlings have achieved very high precision and purity, but somehow there is something that makes it less clean and precise than its siblings. 1,250 bottles were filled in June 2020. - Luis Gutiérrez

Description

Familia Zuccardi Malbec Finca Gravascal 2019 is a single-vineyard wine from a small 0.73 hectare plot on the north-east side of Finca Piedra Infinita in Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley, Mendoza. This high-altitude site features the typical stony soils of the area – large gravels and granite stones covered with calcareous material at a depth of 50 cm – delivering exceptional freshness, minerality and elegance to the Malbec. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in concrete vats and large oak foudres with minimal intervention, the 2019 vintage displays intense aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, violet and fresh herbs, with a distinctive stony minerality. On the palate it offers vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, excellent structure and remarkable purity. A refined and expressive Malbec that beautifully showcases the unique character and purest expression of the Altamira terroir.
