The 1996 Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass that mingles aromas of dried fruits, raspberries and toasted bread with nuances of rose hips, peonies, smoke and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and complete, with a beautifully integrated spine of acidity, excellent concentration and a vinous profile, concluding with a long and iodine-inflected finish. There's a touch more breadth and dimension here than in the white Dom Pérignon P2 of the same vintage, but the two wines share a strong vintage signature this year. - William Kelley
Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 1996 is a late‑release prestige cuvée from 100% Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, blending 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, including 20% still red wine. Aged 16 years on lees and bottled as a low‑dosage Brut (5 g/l), it shows the second Plénitude’s hallmark intensity and complexity. The colour is deep pink with cherry and raspberry highlights; the nose offers vivid summer fruits, raspberry, strawberry and cherry with Dom Pérignon’s signature “hint smoky” character from strict reductive winemaking. On the palate, concentrated berry fruit is wrapped in vibrant 1996 acidity, fine mousse and a spicy undertone with a touch of lemon and chalky minerality. At once youthful and evolved, it has remarkable ageing potential and is drinking beautifully now through at least 2028.
