Mayer's 2021 Tempranillo is leafy and fine. Thanks to the 100% whole bunch, the tannins are firm but ground down. This is gravelly in countenance (not in texture), and it's silky in texture (not in countenance). It's an interesting wine, riddled with blood plum, orange oil, tobacco leaf, green tea, star anise and cinnamon. In time, we can presume that this will gather momentum and meatiness, and that will be a great thing. - Erin Larkin, November 2022

Description

Timo Mayer’s Tempranillo 2021 from the Yarra Valley gives a fragrant, lighter‑framed take on the variety. Aromas of dark cherry and plum are joined by cocoa, dried herbs and a touch of earth. The palate is medium‑bodied and lively, with juicy fruit, bright acidity and fine, gently grippy tannins leading to a savoury, moreish finish. Characterful and food‑friendly, enjoyable now and over the next few years.
