95 Points Wine Advocate

This celebrated wine is released in one tranche of 100 magnums and another of 5,500 bottles with several different label designs, one featuring a hot air balloon and another with a more psychedelic label. The 2017 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj offers rich concentration and a robust center of gravity that is indicative of Serralunga d'Alba, the village where this fruit is cultivated. This is always one of my favorite wines in the Clerico portfolio. This vintage reveals extra power and elegance that pull in both directions, but it is what ultimately gives this wine harmony. This bottle will definitely require patience and more cellaring. - Monica Larner, June 2021

Description

"Aeroplanservaj” (“wild aeroplane”) was Domenico Clerico’s nickname, and this Barolo was born from his desire to push into new territory. In 2006 he left his home village of Monforte to plant Nebbiolo in Serralunga d’Alba, creating a Barolo with the power and structure typical of that commune. The 2017 shows dark cherry and plum with rose, tar, liquorice and warm spice over a mineral, earthy core. The palate is concentrated and energetic, with vibrant acidity and firm, fine‑grained tannins leading to a long, savoury finish and clear ageing potential.

This special case contains 6 bottles of the same 2017 Aeroplanservaj Barolo, each with a different label design — a collectible presentation that honours Domenico’s adventurous spirit.
